Local Catholic school gets $100K donation

Channel 13 is reporting a significant donation to a local Catholic school.

Chili, N.Y.  -- St. Pius X Catholic School in Chili has received a donation of $100,000 from a donor who requested anonymity.

"It is a strong statement of support for the ongoing ministry of Catholic Education. We are so very grateful," said St. Pius principal Stephen Oberst, in a statement released by the Diocese of Rochester.

The donor has asked that the money be used over the next three years on technology, fine arts programs, and student enrichment activities such as field trips and clubs.

The Chili Avenue school was founded in 1954 and has about 375 students in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade.

So St. Pius won't be closing, at least for a few years.

Great news, congratulations St. Pius, and thanks to the donor. There are still people out there who care about Catholic education.

Good for them!!!

I hope they hide it from DOR so the kids will actually benefit from it.

I am so thankful the donor gave it directly to the school. Now the Diocese can't get to it for any other use, RIGHT????

Probably not, but I wouldn't be surprised if the parish's CMA assessment gets bumped up next year.

Holy Trinity had a 6ooK endowment plus the 400K pledged to save the school, it didn't stop them from closing.
If the technology is purchased through the DoR bulk purchasing agreement they will take it, just like they did at HT with equipment purchased by the parents.
Don't be complacent and think this one gift will keep your school safe. The diocese will only look at number of students in that large building. They were already disappointed that it wasn't filled to capacity after the other closures.Retain the current students and find a way to increase enrollment. That is the only way to stay safe.

St. Pius is one of my boyhood parishes. Unfortunately, it is a near-perfect embodiment of everything that is wrong with "DOR." Its pastor recently opined in favor of women's ordination in the bulletin.

He also expressed his hope for more inclusive language the last time I went (and last time I plan on going anytime soon).
