Father John Riccardo

About a week ago I "discovered" Father John Riccardo of the Archdiocese of Detroit.

Resembling in some ways Father John Corapi and in others Archbishop Fulton Sheen, Father Riccardo is a highly orthodox, thoroughly lucid and remarkably humble expositor of the faith.

See for yourself ...

Dozens of Father Riccardo's homilies and longer talks can be found here.

I found myself particularly impressed with his series of talks entitled Catholicism for Cradle Catholics, especially number 7 on the Eucharist.

Also, his Faith Under Attack is a must listen for anyone with children - or grandchildren - about to head off to college.

UPDATE: Most of the talks on Father Riccardo's site are in audio format but there are a few videos. One of these, Confession: A Fireside Chat with the Lord, is well worth the 30 minutes it takes to watch it.

He's also a too-good-for-his-own-good golfer.

A very humble priest. We're blessed to have him here in the AOD - and he was just appointed head of the Evangelization department.

You can't have him in 2012!

Throw in a couple draft picks and maybe we'll talk...

We'll trade you Frs. Palumbo, Kevin Murphy, and Baush. Come on, it's a good deal! (wink wink)

Father Riccardo should be our next bishop in Rochester.

Choir,

That's what Larry and I have been negotiating. (As if we had any say in the matter!)

(Just came across your blog when I did a Google search for Fr. John Riccardo) I agree with you 100% about Fr. Riccardo's gift for teaching. I stumbled across his podcasts about a month ago and bought an iPod just so I could listen to him. I can't believe how much I've grown in understanding and appreciation of our Catholic faith thanks to him.

Wow, I just found this blog too after googling Fr. Riccardo. I just discovered him on Ave Maria Radio, and now I'm downloading podcasts as fast as I can. Like Christ, whom he represents, he speaks with authority. He is not afraid to teach those tough Bible verses and to make us WANT to become better Christians. What a blessing that he is so eloquent in speaking the Truth.

Peggy,

In my opinion Fr. Riccardo is just too good a teacher and too orthodox a Catholic to remain a parish priest for that much longer.

There are just too many dioceses who need a bishop with his gifts and faithfulness to Christ and to his Church.

I'm praying that he ends up in Rochester in another year when Bishop Clark turns 75 and has to submit his resignation.
